Pilar

| 2 Bedrooms + office | 2 Baths |
6 max | Dogs OK | Kids OK | Guest Reviews |
Medieval construction methods meet 21st Century styling and amenities right here on the northern Sonoma coast! Pilar is an elegant example of Post and Beam construction. The house was built by local artisan and Timberpeg builder Michael Thomas, with a lot of hands-on participation from the owners. If you appreciate architecture, you will enjoy Pilar’s tantalizing curves as they wrap around the rugged strength inherent in this traditional exposed timber construction technique.
Clothing the beautiful “bones” is the timeless appeal of the Arts-and-Crafts style. Almost like accessories for an outfit, there are a number of decorative but very functional details in every room. There is beautiful glass in the doors, rich fir accents and trim, and great photography and other art. Pilar allows one to enjoy modern day, high-end accommodations in a world-class destination location while at the same time evoking the fabled days of Art Deco and martinis! It seems someone wants to remind you that there is time to truly relax and appreciate one’s company and surroundings.
The main floor contains an open kitchen-dining-living area. The kitchen is beautifully equipped and provides workspace for the creative cooks in your group. You can also grill outdoors on the patio with the gas BBQ. The living room keeps cozy with a gas fireplace, and includes a great audio/visual set-up with satellite TV/DVD and music/CD/MP3 system.
The bedroom has a queen bed, and the adjoining bathroom sports a claw-foot tub with hand-held shower.
Upstairs you first come to the office, graciously appointed with a work desk, a comfy futon for sitting or sleeping (makes into a queen bed).
Next is the master suite; more like a retreat room, really. There is a sitting area, gas fireplace, television, queen bed, and a gorgeous bathroom.
For outdoor fun there is a large hot tub on the patio off the dining area.
And Pilar is just steps away from one of the most dramatic walking trails ANYwhere! The bluff trail at Sea Ranch leads north in a few minutes to Gualala Point Park. The northern end of the bluff trail is a very large sandy beach which has the powerful Pacific on one side, and the usually tranquil Gualala River on the other other. At almost any time of day you can enjoy many kinds of birds along the trail and the shorelines. If you’re sharp-eyed, you may catch a glimpse of a river otter, or maybe a migrating whale will spout and show off! Deer and rabbits forage nonchalantly in the Park meadows and woods, and throughout the Sea Ranch Golf Links which meander along the north edge of The Ranch. Rounding out the local wildlife might be raccoons, skunks, foxes, and many birds of prey. Call soon to reserve your time in this amazing place.

Well, the supplies are all put away, the equipment is all organized. Internet, two flat-screen TV’s, stereos, videos…La Boussole has developed into a lovely and very nicely equipped home. Please be in touch to reserve your getaway while there are still openings for the summer. This Sea Ranch home is a stand-out for many reasons!
“La Boussole” translates to The Compass, named to evoke a place to become clear, and to re-orient oneself. Expanded around a central enclosed courtyard, this large vacation home provides a true base for a completely refreshing getaway. You’ll find ample spaces, with many options for privacy or separation when needed. There are also several areas for regrouping when it’s time to come together. Outdoor living is easy in the courtyard which is nicely sheltered from our mistral wind. The private courtyard includes a lawn, large deck, large hot tub, charcoal BBQ, and plenty of seating and is flanked by the studio and the house.
The house is split-level, and offers a master bedroom and bathroom at one end, and two bedrooms and two baths at the other end. In between, is the large ocean-view dining room right off the kitchen, then up a few steps to the roomy living room with its walls of windows and large fireplace.
The studio is a huge, bright open space for watching TV, relaxing, reading, gazing at the beauty outside, as well as additional sleeping space. There is a small desk in the loft for those who may need a work or study area. The loft also provides a casual seating/lounging arrangement. There is a half-bath in the studio.
While inwardly protecting the wonderful courtyard, La Boussole also opens brightly to her wild and beautiful north coast surroundings. Not far from the shore, one can gaze out at crashing waves and broad ocean views, and enjoy the rugged coastal and hillside expanses. Hiking is a cinch! The trail is just a few feet from the front door, and presents a choice of bluff, hillside or meadow rambles. And a short distance on foot will bring you to the Ohlson Ranch Center pool and tennis, just beyond the Stengle Beach access.
A recent acquisition for new owners, La Boussole has undergone a loving transformation. Be one of the first to experience this lovely vacation home, and set your own new course!

Ready for a long, tall Sea Ranch with a twist of Southwest? “Kiva” is the next best thing if you can’t make it to Sedona this weekend! Getting away also means losing some of those work-week boundaries; no cubicles or bustling lobbies here! Just open the large sliding glass doors, and enjoy the free flow from house to deck to hot tub to meadow and back again. Stunning architecture with soaring spaces, fantastic great room, super bathrooms are all found in this west meadow home.
Remember when cooking was fun and not just something you have to do? For those who want the occasional dining in experience, the kitchen is well appointed, and because it is wide open to the dining room, living room and the vast picture windows, it’s an easy place to spend a lot of time.
The living room has a variety of seating options depending on what you want to do. You might want to claim your window seat early on, and be sure to bring that book you’ve been trying to finish.
There’s a deck table for eating out coastal-style, and they even thought of an outdoor shower next to the hot tub! This just might be easy living at its best. The days will fly by, but that’s not all bad because that means the nights just arrive sooner. The evenings at Sea Ranch can be delightful, and the night sky is breathtaking!
Kiva offers two bedrooms (king and queen beds) and two roomy baths.
Kiva sleeps up to 4 guests, adults only. No pets please. And please remember the owners absolutely do not allow ab divers at this home.
